Creatinine is considered a natural human waste, which is produced during muscle metabolism and/or exogenous consumption of animal protein. This molecule is filtered through the renal system and excreted in urine. In clinical settings, the ability of kidneys to filter creatinine is measured using various parameters including: glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and Albumin to Creatinine Ratio (ACR). Therefore, creatinine has become a validated biomarker for the measurement of proper kidney function and high concentrations of this molecule in blood indicate kidney damage due to complications in patients suffering diabetes, or kidney disease. No. K625-100). Samples were deproteinized. Filtrates (serum: 25 µl of 5-fold dilution; urine: 5 µl of 200-fold dilution) were spiked with known amounts of creatinine (serum: 0.6 nmol; urine: 4 nmol). Calculated concentrations: serum: 0.97 ± 0.06 mg/dl; Urine: 197.1 ± 18 mg/dl were assayed following the kit protocol.
