SARS-CoV-2 S1, RBD and N proteins for serological test development
Serological tests can be used to identify whether people have been exposed to a particular pathogen by looking for the presence of antibodies that are produced in response to infections. The demand for serological tests of SARS-CoV-2 is increasing rapidly in order to improve the accuracy of clinical diagnosis and better quantify the number of cases of COVID-19, including those that may be asymptomatic or have recovered.
Serological test kits that are approved by FDA include colloidal gold immunoassay, chemiluminescence immunoassay and ELISA. S1 protein, RBD protein and N protein are the main antigens used in commercial anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody detection kits.
