Increasing Antibiotic Resistance is a Growing Problem
According to the National Foundation for Infectious Disease, approximately 3,000,000 people each year struggle with infections from antibiotic resistant bacteria.
About 35,000 individuals will die as a result of these infections! There are several primary sources of increasing antibiotic resistance. Check out our recent blog post to learn more about this pressing issue.
Looking to the Future
The fact that there aren’t many new drugs in the development pipeline is an area of concern in the scientific community. The World Health Organization has stated that the world is currently in the process of running out effective antibiotics.
Most of the new drugs that researchers are currently developing are modifications of existing drugs. It is going to take some serious investment and time to develop a new array of antibiotics with alternate mechanisms for fighting microbes. The war against antibiotic resistance rages on!
