Description

Acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase 2 (ACAT-2) plays a role in lipoprotein assembly and dietary cholesterol absorption. ACAT-2 catalyzes the following reaction: Acyl-CoA + cholesterol = CoA + cholesterol ester. In addition to its acyltransferase activity, ACAT-2 acts as a ligase. ACAT-2 provides cholesteryl esters for lipoprotein secretion from hepatocytes and intestinal mucosa.
