Breast cancer type 2 susceptibility protein (BRCA2) is involved in double-strand break repair and homologous recombination as well as in S phase checkpoint activation. Defects in BRCA2 are a cause of genetic susceptibility to breast and ovarian cancers as well as the cause of Fanconi anemia complementation group D type 1 (FANCD1).
