Hyaluronan synthase 1 (HA synthase 1) plays a role in hyaluronan/hyaluronic acid (HA) synthesis. HA synthase 1 catalyzes the synthesis of chito-oligosaccharide depending on the substrate. HA synthase 1 is highly expressed in ovary followed by spleen, thymus, prostate, testes and large intestine, and is weakly expressed in small intestine.
