Description

Heat shock factor protein 1 (HSF1) is a DNA-binding protein that specifically binds heat shock promoter elements (HSE) and activates transcription. HSF1 is unable to bind to the HSE unless the cells are heat shocked. HSF1 is localized in the cytoplasm during normal growth and shuttles to the nucleus upon activation. HSF1 is a marker for the formation of nuclear stress bodies which associate with satellite III repeats on human chromosome 9q12 and other pericentrometic regions upon heat shock.
