Description

Interleukin-11 (IL-11) stimulates the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells. The megakaryocyte maturation results in increased platelet production. This property of IL-11 is used with the therapeutic agent, Neumega (Wyeth), for the prevention of severe thrombocytopenia after myelosuppressive chemotherapy, and therefore reduces the need for platelet transfusion after such treatment. This antibody recognizes human IL-11 in ELISA.
