VEGFR-2 (Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2) is a tyrosine-protein kinase and receptor for VEGF or VEGFC. The VEGF-kinase ligand/receptor signaling system plays a key role in vascular development and regulation of vascular permeability. In HIV-1 infection cases, VEGFR2 interaction with extracellular viral Tat protein enhances angiogenesis in Kaposi’s sarcoma lesions.
