Description

Beta-Amyloid forms are deposited in the CNS of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and Down’s syndrome. Biochemical analysis of the amyloid peptides isolated from Alzheimer’s disease brain indicates that Beta-Amyloid (1-42) is the principal species associated with senile plaque amyloids, while Beta-Amyloid (1-40) is more abundant in cerebrovascular amyloid deposits. Both result from the cleavage of Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) by secretases. The mAb 12F4 reacts with the C-terminus of Beta-Amyloid and is specific to the isoform ending at the 42nd residue.
