Description

TGF-beta receptor type II (TGFR2) forms a heteromeric complex with TGFR1 after binding TGF-beta at the cell surface and activates TGFR2 by phosphorylation, subsequently binding and activation of the SMAD transcriptional regulators. Defects in TGFR2 are a cause of hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer type 6 (HNPCC6), esophageal cancer, and Loeys-Dietz syndromes (aortic aneurism syndrome).
