近期印度西孟加拉邦（West Bengal）通報的立百病毒 Nipah virus (NiV) 感染病例，再度引發全球關注，並加速了針對此高致死率病原體的研究。立百病毒主要侵襲中樞神經系統與呼吸系統，其致死率（case fatality rates）介於 40% 至 75% 之間。世界衛生組織（WHO）目前已將立百病毒列為優先處理病原體（priority pathogen），且目前尚無核准的疫苗或特效抗病毒藥物。
