Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne virus belonging to the Togaviridae family, specifically the Alphavirus genus. CHIKV is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus that causes severe disease in humans, typically characterized by fever and debilitating joint pain. CHIKV has been reported in more than 100 countries and regions, raising concerns about the potential for widespread outbreaks.
